The number of children who require medical care to maintain their life and health after acute treatment (children with medical needs) is approximately 20,000. The condition of many children with medical care is unstable, and frequent emergency room visits and repeated hospitalizations are common. In addition to the heavy burden of caregiving on the mothers, who are often the primary caregivers, they also bear a heavy burden of accurately assessing the health status of their children not only at home, but also in other settings such as child development support services and schools, contributing to a deep sense of isolation for the children and their families.

Therefore, this study aims to develop a tool to support judgment of the health status of severely ill pediatric homebound patients, who have different pathological characteristics from normal children, by utilizing ICT and AI technologies, as well as a medical interview with measurements of heart rate, body temperature, and oxygen saturation that can be answered without hesitation by people involved with children other than their guardians.

The tool developed in this research could be used as an educational tool for parents to judge the physical condition of their children, and for sharing information with multiple professions involved with the children. If this support tool can expand the number of facilities that accept children with special medical needs, mothers and children will be able to actively participate in social activities, which may contribute to support not only physically and mentally but also financially.
